レモン・ド・サン・ジル城塞

12世紀に建設されたTripoliを見下ろす巨大な十字軍の要塞。レバノンで最大かつ最も保存状態の良い十字軍城塞の一つ。

The Citadel of Raymond de Saint-Gilles, also known as the Tripoli Citadel or Qal'at Sanjil, is a massive Crusader fortress from the 12th century, standing above the city of Tripoli. The site is one of the largest and best-preserved Crusader castles in Lebanon, and it makes a rewarding visit for anyone interested in medieval military architecture.

What to expect

The castle is built on a commanding rise, so the walls and towers are visible from far across the city. Walking through the fortifications gives a clear sense of its scale. Its thick walls and defensive layout show how it was designed to hold a position above the surrounding town.

  • Setting: a hill overlooking Tripoli, in the North Governorate of Lebanon
  • Period: built in the 12th century during the Crusades
  • Known as: the Tripoli Citadel or Qal'at Sanjil

Planning your visit

Because the fortress sits above the city, the visit suits those who enjoy exploring historic ruins on foot and taking in views over the rooftops. Allow time to walk the grounds at a relaxed pace. For current visiting details, you can call the site on +961 6 432860 before you travel.

Tripoli itself offers a lively setting around the citadel, with its own streets and everyday life to explore. Pairing the castle with a walk through the city gives a fuller picture of the area and its long history.
