奇乌卢山国家公园

一座火山山脉,形成了世界上最年轻的山脉之一,由过去140万年的火山活动所创造。公园提供Mount Kilimanjaro的壮丽景色和多样化的生态系统。

Chyulu Hills National Park lies in Taita-Taveta County in south-eastern Kenya. It protects a volcanic mountain range, sometimes called the Chyulu Hills, which the facts describe as one of the world's youngest mountain ranges. Its shapes were formed by volcanic activity over roughly the past 1.4 million years, so the landscape looks markedly different from older, more weathered highlands nearby.

What a visit offers

The park is a nature reserve, and a visit suits people who want open country, quiet and wide views rather than a city-style itinerary. Its main draw is the scenery: the range gives sweeping views towards Mount Kilimanjaro, which rises to the south-west and is one of the best-known mountains in Africa.

  • Views of Mount Kilimanjaro across the plains
  • Volcanic terrain shaped by a very young geology
  • Diverse ecosystems, from different habitats within one protected area

Planning your trip

Chyulu Hills is best approached as part of a wider trip through southern Kenya, where the Taita-Taveta area and the towns around it provide a base for onward travel. Because the park is remote and set in a rural county, it is wise to check arrangements in advance. The park can be reached by phone on +254-20-2379407 for up-to-date information on access and visiting conditions.
