Further south, in Cape Maclear, is a sandy beach and a fishing village. Lilongwe, the capital located in the southwest, is a true sanctuary of the country's history. Not far from the main town, the Nkhotakota Nature Reserve and Kuti Reserve are renowned for various animals and the surrounding biodiversity. Close to the second-largest city in the country, Blantyre, hiking and climbing enthusiasts will find their happiness in the mountain range dominated by Mount Mulanje. The Majete reserve, west of Blantyre, is home to several hundred animal species, including leopards, elephants, buffaloes, rhinos, and lions. The reserve is also the meeting place for ornithologists. Malawi's many tea plantations are around the town of Thyolo. From Nyika National Park, it is possible to trek to Livingstonia in northern Malawi.
