Corniche Kennedy

Corniche Kennedy is a scenic coastal road in Marseille, in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region of southern France. It follows the Mediterranean shoreline for about 5 kilometres, and for many visitors it is the easiest way to see the sea from the city.

What to expect

The road is lined with trees and gives wide views across the water. Along the way you will find access to small beaches and coves, which make the route a pleasant stop if you want to spend time by the sea rather than simply pass it. The promenade has a relaxed character, with room for walking, cycling, or just sitting and watching the coast go by.

Ways to enjoy it

  • Walking: the tree-lined promenade suits an unhurried stroll, with the sea in view for much of the way.
  • Cycling: the length of the route makes it a natural choice for a bike ride along the coast.
  • Coves and beaches: pause at the small beaches and coves to swim, sit on the rocks, or simply take in the scenery.
  • Coastal atmosphere: with no set schedule or ticket, the corniche works well at any point in the day you happen to be in the city.

Because the corniche is an open road rather than an enclosed site, you can dip in and out of it as your time allows, turning back whenever you like or continuing further along the coast. It pairs well with a wider day in Marseille, offering a change of pace from the city streets and a clear view of the Mediterranean that Marseille is known for.
