Collegium Maius

Bâtiment de collège médiéval de l'Université Jagiellonian, aujourd'hui musée présentant les traditions académiques et les instruments scientifiques. Site historique où Copernicus a étudié, présentant une belle architecture gothique.

Collegium Maius is the medieval college building of the Jagiellonian University in Kraków, in the Lesser Poland Voivodeship of southern Poland. Its address is Jagiellońska 15, in the city centre, and it is also known as Kolegium Maius. Today the building houses a museum that shows the academic traditions of the university and a collection of scientific instruments.

What you will see

The museum presents the everyday life and learning of a university that has been part of Kraków for centuries. Its displays of scientific instruments give a sense of how study and research were carried out in earlier times. The building itself is a historic setting in its own right, and the Gothic architecture is one of the main reasons visitors come.

Why it matters

  • It is a historic site connected to the Jagiellonian University, one of the oldest universities in Central Europe.
  • Nicolaus Copernicus studied here, which links the building to the history of astronomy.
  • The Gothic architecture gives the visit a strong sense of place.

Planning your visit

Collegium Maius suits anyone interested in university history, science, or medieval buildings. Because it sits in the historic centre, it is easy to combine with a walk through the old town of Kraków and its other sights. For current opening times, ticket information, or questions before you go, you can call the museum at +48 12 663 13 07.
