Farlige Forbindelser is a bold new stage adaptation of Les Liaisons Dangereuses, running at Nørrebro Teater in Copenhagen from 27 February to 24 March 2027. The production is directed by Jennifer Vedsted Christiansen, with the text reworked by playwright Marie Bjørn, who brings a contemporary lens to Laclos' 1782 epistolary novel.
Connie Nielsen, internationally known for her film career including the Gladiator films (2000, 2024), makes her theatre debut in the leading role of the manipulative Marquise de Merteuil. She is joined by Christian Tafdrup — celebrated internationally as director of Speak No Evil (2022) — returning to the stage for the first time since 2017 as the seductive Valmont.
The production reimagines the clash between its five central characters as a neon-lit power game in which desire, status and domination intertwine. Set in a decadent world where Rococo aesthetics collide with the status symbols of late capitalism, the play examines how individuals perpetuate the very hierarchies that oppress them. Love becomes competition, the body a currency, and surrender a defeat.
Performances are in Danish. Show times vary by day: Tuesday–Friday at 19:00 (with selected Wednesday and Friday performances at 20:00), Saturday at 15:00, and Sunday at 13:00. The final performance on 24 March begins at 17:00.
