The Cloth Hall, known in Polish as Sukiennice, stands in the middle of Krakow's Main Square (Rynek Główny), at Rynek Główny 1/3 in the city of Kraków, in the Lesser Poland Voivodeship. It is a Renaissance building, and its long arcaded form makes it one of the most recognisable landmarks on the square.
What you will find inside
The building houses the Gallery of 19th-Century Polish Art, a museum devoted to Polish painting and sculpture from that century. Visitors who enjoy seeing a national school of art presented in one place will find it a focused and rewarding stop.
Around the building, and within its arcades, a souvenir market offers a range of small gifts and crafts, making it an easy place to browse after a visit to the gallery.
Planning your visit
- Location: Rynek Główny 1/3, 31-042 Kraków, in the centre of the Old Town.
- Phone: +48 12 424 46 00, if you want to check details before you go.
- Nearby: the Main Square itself, one of the largest medieval squares in Europe, is lined with cafés, churches and historic townhouses, so the Cloth Hall fits naturally into a walk around the centre.
Because the Cloth Hall sits at the heart of the Old Town, it works well as a starting point for exploring the rest of Krakow on foot. Give yourself time to combine the gallery with a stroll through the square and the streets that lead away from it.
