博洛尼亚

以美食、门廊和红砖建筑闻名的中世纪大学城。

Bologna is a city in Emilia-Romagna, in northern Italy. It is a medieval university town, and its nickname, La Dotta, refers to that long scholarly tradition. Its other nickname, La Grassa, points to the food, which is central to any visit.

The city is known for its red-brick architecture, and much of its character comes from the porticoes, the covered arcades that line its streets. They give a visitor shelter from sun and rain and make walking the centre a pleasant, unhurried activity. The old town rewards time spent on foot, with its brick facades and narrow lanes opening onto squares.

What a visit offers

  • Cuisine: Bologna's reputation rests on its food, and eating well is a natural part of spending time here.
  • Architecture: The red-brick buildings and long arcades define the look of the historic centre.
  • Academic life: As a university city, its medieval past and its student population give the centre a lively, young feel.

Planning your trip

Bologna suits a relaxed stay built around walking, eating and looking at buildings. Because the centre is compact, most of its character can be reached on foot, with the arcades providing cover whatever the weather. Visitors who enjoy cities that reward slow exploration, rather than a checklist of sights, will find it a good fit.
